Since starting out, our mission at Lone Star Medicare has always been to help individuals make good decisions and get the best Medicare Supplement coverage for their needs. With that comes reliable information, professional service, and savings by comparing quality options. Thankfully, we’ve been fulfilling that mission over the last several years as we’ve helped hundred’s of Texans with their Medicare supplemental insurance. During this time our mission has evolved and now includes; “To give back and help promote the health and well being of our country and the communities we serve.” To fulfill this mission we have launched what we call the “Dollar Votes” charity program.
How It Works
Each quarter, through research, a list of health related charities is created. Examples include; cancer research, alzheimer’s, mental health, heart disease, and neglected seniors. This list of charities is sent to Lone Star Medicare customers who get to vote for their favorite. Once the votes are tallied, the charities with the most votes get the majority of donations. The donations are made as a portion of all sales proceeds generated by the insurance agency for the quarter. “This is a way for us to be more than just an insurance agency” It’s also a way to get our clients involved in the process” said Ben Rodriguez, Licensed Agent and Director of the agency. “There are many places to buy supplemental insurance. We want folks to not only get the best personal services but to understand they are working with a socially conscious business. We want them to understand that a portion of their sales proceeds are going to make a difference in people’s lives.”
Current Quarter Results
For the launch of the program, the following charities comprised the list; St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Boot Campaign, and Meals on Wheels of Texas. St. Jude’s researches and develops treatment for child cancer. They provide this treatment to children and their families at no cost to them. Boot Campaign is a Veteran’s Service Organization based in Tyler, TX. They provide funding for programs that help veterans dealing with post traumatic stress, brain injuries, chronic pain, and other disorders. Meals On Wheels, through their network of volunteers, primarily delivers meals to neglected seniors. Each charity is checked with the BBB and Charity Navigator to ensure acceptable ratings.
The Lone Star Medicare customer community voted on these charities and here were the results;
1st Place – St. Jude’s Children’s – Received 50% of donation pool.
2nd Place – Meals On Wheels – Received 35% of donation pool.
3rd Place – Boots Campaign – Received 15% of donation pool.
